In this guide you will learn about a number of tools that you may need when you decided to upgrade, or repair your Computers Hardware. Not all of these tools will be required, but there are some that are essential and you should ensure you have them to hand before you open your computers chasis.
As mentioned above, there is an absolute minimum toolset that you will need before you should even consider opening your computers chassis. This section of the article lists those tools and gives you a brief overview of what you will need them for.
Most people can go for years by just using a standard size Philips screwdriver, but there will be times when some of the other tools will be required.
Its highly beneficial to have a range of differently sized Philips screwdrivers to hand because some screws are bigger than others inside your computer, and some will required more force to turn than others so these a must.
A three prong prove is also immensely handy for when you drop a screw inside your systems case and it lands somewhere in the motherboard. these devices work wonders for retrieving these pesky dropped screws without damaging anything.
Cable ties are essential for keeping cables tidy inside your case so that you can allow for better air flow. The cooler the components are inside your computer, the more efficient the system can run and there is less chance of something over heating and causing damage.
Self Sticking labels are handy if you are new to working with a computers hardware and you need to unplug a lot of cables. You can stick labels to everything you remove and make a diagram of what numbered part goes where in the computer.
When you progress in the trade, or start working with computer repair professionally, there are more tools that you will need and find essential to keeping a computer safe and clean whilst working with it.
These tools are for the very advanced user, but the first four of the list should also be used by beginners to avoid damaging the computers components with static discharge. Computer components are very sensitive to static electricity and the smallest jolt can literally fry your processor, memory or anything else in the case. These are also an absolute must for technicians to avoid damaging a customers computer.
A compressed air canister is also handy for beginners, and its sole purpose its to blast the dust build up's out of the case. Dust in a computer is a bad thing and it builds up quickly. It can clog up fans and damage them, and it can also reduce the amount of air flow within the computer and build up heat. Air Canisters are the best way to deal with dust in a computer. Vacuum Cleaners are a big no no as they carry static electricity that can damage the computers components.
The last two items on the list are for the extreme professionals who repair circuitry and the likes. There are a number of uses these two tools but I will not cover them here.
